I finally clicked the BUY button, and purchased a rotisserie attachment for my kettle. On the maiden voyage I prepared a 5lb chicken. It was juicy and very flavorful. I cannot wait to see what other things I rotisserie. I cooked the chicken at 375 degrees for about an hour and 45 minutes. Keeping temperature steady was no issue at all.
I can't believe I didn't buy one of these sooner. I made the most amazing rotisserie chicken without any effort whatsoever. The motor on this kit is strong. The chicken I cooked on it weighed around 7 pounds and the action on the motor was very smooth. One thing that went wrong however is that I couldn't see the back of the grill where the motor was mounted and the power cable got stuck to the side of the grill because of the temperature on the metal skin of the grill. After inspection I didn't see any damaged conductors. Only the insulation was damaged right through. I used gorilla tape and the problem was fixed. Next time I'll be more careful on how I route the cable. Installation was simple. The material is truly stainless steel. I left it outside in the rain several days and after a few weeks I still do not see any rust. I'm glad I bought this product. I think the price is right too. I can't recommend it enough. I own the
I added a couple tabs internally so the ring would not move as noted in my original review. Thankfully, I had some scrap material and a home workshop, so it cost nothing but a few minutes of cutting, drilling, and a couple rivets. MUCH better now. Everything needed was supplied and the parts are all sturdy enough, no complaints there and I'm happy with the cost (less than half of the Weber brand one). However, the one shortcoming of sorts (compared to the Weber brand one) is that the rotisserie ring sits on top of the kettle base and settles over it, like your top normally does. There is no positive engagement into the kettle base (like the Weber brand), which means you have to be careful when working when working with your grill (adding coals, adding food, etc). I was taking the top off ours with the grill at 350+ (rotisserie in place, motor placed on, no meat on the spit) and I wasn't careful enough, causing the rotisserie to tilt and start sliding off. Thankfully I had gloves on and could grab it. It made me a lot more careful when placing the chicken in the grill after. I'll add some tabs to the ring bottom inside so it holds in the kettle base better before using it next time. Good purchase overall, fair enough price.
Everything works as advertised. It's a little out of round, but that should straighten itself out after a while. There was a burr on one of the knobs for the skewer that cut my hands a bit, so be careful. For my application, I'll need some gaskets to help it seal a bit better, as it runs too hot as its. The unit gets a little interference from the kettles handle hardware. I imagine this is no problem on a weber. But for those who want a rotisserie for this grill, it couldn't be much easier than this. Recommended.
