I use my onlyfire tumble basket mostly for wings. It produces absolutely fantastic results, but it definitely likes to collect food residue during cooks. After several losing battles trying to get it clean, I finally hit upon the answer. After a cook, I put a pound of 10 mm ceramic pie weights in the basket, turn up the heat, and let it spin for 15-20 minutes. The heat and tumbling action knock off almost all the large bits, leaving just a coating of carbon like youd have on cast iron or carbon steel cookware. Use a brush to knock off any stray bits, give it a rinse and shake prior to the next cook, and you’re good to go.
I was trying to buy the Napoleon basket which I know gets good reviews, but was out of stock so purchased this instead. It served its purpose well, fitting perfectly on the 18’‘ Kamado Joe Classic with Jotisserie. The only problem was that there were little barbs sticking out on the cage that I ended up cutting myself on several times when cleaning. After taking a file to the barbs, it’s good now and I don‘t worry about it. Good value for the money. I‘d purchase again considering the perfect fit for my grill.
I like the basket but find it has a rough finish for cleaning I hand washed it and it shredded my dollar store scrubber leaving bits on the basket I had to pick off, then I used a metal mesh cloth rag and it took pieces off that as well, it is easy to clean though, sprayed with Dawn power spray, let it soak, then rubbed, then I put it into the dishwasher. The residue left on the basket I could brush off if I were to but again I would get the basket that has metal rods that creates squares rather than the mesh diamonds we made great chicken wings so I'm pleased just the same
This is a long overdue review for the Only Fire Stainless Steel Rotisserie Grill. I bought this to use with my 22-inch Weber kettle and Weber rotisserie motor and spit. I was a little concerned by some of the reviews that mentioned the basket has sharp edges. My basket had no issues with sharp edges. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. I use this basket pretty much 90% of the time when I'm doing rotisserie. It works wonderfully.Using it for party wings (drumettes and flats) has become one of our favorite recipes. We served them to company last night and they were effusive in their reviews which reminded me I've been meaning to post a review. I do use cooking spray as other reviewers suggest. I remove the screws before putting it in the dishwasher and it cleans up sparklingly. The spit takes a little elbow grease to clean with a scouring sponge but the five minutes that it takes is well worth it. The wings come out crisp and moist. We usually put out dipping sauces like blue cheese, honey mustard, or barbecue sauce but the wings have such a great chicken flavor that folks generally just enjoy them straight up. I hunted around for a recipe and put together this which has served me well. Highly recommended purchase. For each two pounds of party wings (drumettes and flats) mix with:? ? Tablespoon each of olive oil, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder? 1 Tablespoon of kosher salt? Dry brine in the fridge for 2-4 hours.? Use cooking spray to coat the basket and then roast over indirect heat with a foil pain underneath to catch the drippings. 2 pounds will take about 45 minutes. 4 pounds may take a little more than an hour.I've used a full chimney of lit charcoal briquets split between two Weber charcoal baskets but now I half fill a Slow n Sear with unlit lump charcoal and pour half a chimney of lit coals on top. Both approaches work great. With the Slow n Sear method, I don't have to take the Slow n Sear out of the kettle (yes, I'm that lazy) and I also theorize that some of the juices drip on the lit charcoal possibly adding flavor.
I like this for a couple of different reasons. I am using this on my BigJoe Kamado Joe. The basket fits well. Like other baskets clean up can be a pain but if you soak the basket in a 5gal bucket w dishwasher pods most of the debris comes off. Only negative compared to Napoleon basket is the the latches can come unhooked. HOWEVER, I have never had 2 at the same time unlatch and I have never had an issue w the basket coming open.lOverall, for the price I am extremely happy w the purchase
The only thing I don’t like is that it is starting to rust after washing it the 2nd time. Works well with my veggies and potatoes.
I bought this knowing that it‘’d be hard to clean. Therefore, I knew what I was in for. That being said, I love having it. I use it for wings on my Kamado Joe classic 3. They come out perfect. I especially like the fact that the set screws on this basket are small thumb screws. Other models have large screws that if not placed perfectly, interfere with the rotation in the KJ.
Does everything I need it too. Yes, hard to clean. But as soon as you take your food out put the basket in 5 gallon bucket with soap and water. Let it soak and run it through the dishwasher. All is good.Over all I‘’d buy it again.
It it well built. The only thing on the construction, I have one latch that isn't as tight as the other, which is ok, just wish they were both as tight. Cleaning is the only somewhat downfall. All those little wires don't always come clean so I have go back & hand clean them. But, for as much as we love this it's a price I'm willing to pay.
Between my homemade marinade and rub, this grill basket rotisserie accessory, and my pellet grill, I turned out some of the tastiest wings tonight. 40 wings, 2.5 hours at 225, 15 minutes at 500, and OMG, so good!
Smaller than I thought a little difficult to open at 500 but with a little practice it became second hand.
Within in 1/2 hour of arrival, I had a dozen wings in this basket. It worked very well. I like grilled wings, but flipping them and getting an even cook is a pain. I'd wind up taking wings off the grill a few at a time over the last 15 minutes, as they were done. This thing cooks every wing evenly. Once done, you just open the basket, with gloves on, and dump the wings out. Piece of cake.
Great basket; a new way of grilling with different flavors.I received my basket very well packaged, and used the same day. No issues.Mixed ribeye cut in cubes, potato (frozen fren large cut), some vegetables... it was absolutely fantastic!!To clean, I used a brush; takes bit of worth effort obviously because of the shape of the basket, but is not a problem.
